The Most Important:

  • A clear schedule brings calm – buffers keep the day flexible.
  • Realistic time estimates: Ceremony 45–60 min, reception 60–90 min, dinner 2–2.5 hrs, photos 30–60 min or First Look 15–30 min.
  • With WedSet, you centrally plan your timeline, assign responsibilities, and share it with everyone involved.

Welcome to the Wedding Alphabet A–Z

We start with A for Agenda — the foundation of your big day. A good plan brings structure, reduces nerves and leaves room for real emotions. Practical tip: the more guests, the more important travel times and coordination become.

The common thread: a tried-and-true day timeline

  • Getting Ready: Allow about 2–3 hours in total for styling, dressing and finishing touches.
    • If you like, schedule a 'First Look' — 15–30 minutes; it relaxes the afternoon.
  • Ceremony: 45–60 minutes is realistic (incl. processional, vows, exchange of rings, recessional).
  • Congratulations & reception: Plan 60–90 minutes for hugs, a champagne reception, cake or small program items.
  • Couple photos: Traditionally 40–90 minutes or several mini-sessions (e.g. Golden Hour). That way you miss less time with your guests.
  • Dinner & speeches: 2–3 hours, depending on courses and contributions. (Give yourselves time)
  • Party: After-dinner opener (e.g. first dance), then let the party flow.

Tip: An “Unplugged” note for the ceremony keeps the moment focused — for you, your guests and the photographer. (Unplugged: wedding/ceremony without phones — full attention for the couple and the emotions.)

Smartly schedule buffers

  • Give each program item an extra 10–15 minutes. Two additional buffer blocks of 15 minutes during the day will save the flow.
  • Think travel times twice: parking, elevator, group photo (10–15 minutes to gather) — it adds up.
  • Consider light: if possible, plan photos around the Golden Hour. For midday sun, schedule shaded spots.

Three styles, three timelines

  • Classic: midday ceremony, reception, dinner with speeches, first dance. A calmer, more formal rhythm.
  • Laid-back: late free-form ceremony, food stations/trucks, sunset shoot, quick transitions.
  • Minimalist: civil ceremony + brunch or late dinner & after-party — few fixed points, lots of flexibility.
